Join Steve Edington, author and Unitarian Universalist minister, in conversation with Cathy Cassady, daughter of Neal and Carolyn Cassady, as they discuss the unique friendship between Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady, and how their worlds collided; in effect a rebirth of one another.
Steve Edington is the author of The Gospel According to Jack, The Beat Face of God: The Beat Generation Writers as Spirit Guides, among many other titles exploring Kerouac, the Beat Generation, and spirituality. Edington is Minister Emeritus of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashua, New Hampshire, where he served for twenty four years. He’s also a longtime member of the Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Committee, which organizes the biannual Lowell Celebrates Kerouac festival.
Cathy Cassady Sylvia is the eldest daughter of Neal and Carolyn Cassady. She appears in three of Kerouac’s novels, On the Road, Visions of Cody, and Big Sur. Following Carolyn’s passing in 2013, Cathy, her sister Jami, and brother John discovered a trove of their mother’s creative output—writing, poetry, drawings, paintings, costume and set designs, and other art, along with voluminous journals and correspondence. Cathy continues to work diligently toward the preservation and recognition of her mother’s artistic legacy.
